Meccano Program - ACT Schools Volunteer Program/Rotary
Students at Macquarie have access to a lunchtime Meccano program. Students work individually or in pairs with mentors from the ACT Schools Volunteer Program and Rotary, to build structures or machines. Students are usually referred to the program by their class teacher but may also submit their own expressions of interest. This program is open to year 5 and year 6 students and runs for 10 consecutive weeks (a term).
Medical
Families are required to inform the school about any medical conditions children may have, to ensure appropriate care can be provided. Families are requested to contact the front office if there are any changes to student’s medical plans during the year.
Medical Information and Consent Form: Parents are asked to complete this form at the start of each year to keep records up to date, provide general medical information and permission for first aid to be administered.
Medical Screening - Kindergarten
A Community Health Nurse from ACT Health visits the school annually to provide a free medical screening for kindergarten students. Parents are contacted if there is any need for referral to specialist services. Parents and carers complete a questionnaire in term one prior to the health check to provide some background information about the child. Once the check has been completed, parents and carers receive a copy of the report in the mail.
Medication
Written authority is required from parents/carers for a member of staff to administer medication.
Parents/carers are required to provide written directions and a written statement from the student’s doctor authorising a member of staff to administer prescribed medication. A Medication Authorisation Record needs to be completed at the front office when a student requires medication during the school day.
Medication must be clearly labelled and in its original packaging, with doses and times for administration clearly stated. Medication must be stored with the front office.
Money
If students need to bring money to school, we encourage it to be kept in a snap lock bag or envelope identified with the child’s name and a description of what the money is for.
Music Lessons
At Macquarie we are lucky to have access to a range of music tutoring for students including piano, guitar and violin. This is a parent-pay basis and organised outside school hours. More information is available from the front office.
