Macquarie has a years 5 and 6 brass band program run by the ACT Instrumental Music Program for selected students. At the beginning of the year, students in year 5 are assessed through a listening test as to their suitability for participation in the band program. No previous instrumental experience is required. Selected students are invited to join the band program for two years. Students have two 40 minute lessons with a teacher from the Instrumental Music Program each week during class time. They also have one practice session with the MPS teacher supporting the band during a lunch break. A commitment to home practice is essential. Costs are associated with participation in this program. Parents can apply for financial support for the child to participate in the band if required.
